KENT, Ohio –– Kent State football head coach Kenni Burns has elevated running back coach and recruiting coordinator Mark Watson Jr. to general manager.
"Mark Watson's promotion to general manager is a crucial step in adapting to the evolving landscape of college football," said Burns. "Mark has been a valued asset to our team, and his knowledge and leadership will be vital as we continue to build a strong, competitive program. His transition to GM will allow us to better navigate the modern game."
Watson joined the Golden Flashes in 2023, where he oversaw the rushing attack that included two running backs that finished in the top 20 in the MAC in rushing. Gavin Garcia led the Flashes with 544, and Jaylen Thomas followed with 460 rushing yards.
In 2024, Watson coached Ky Thomas, who finished 15th in the MAC after rushing for 549 yards.
Before joining the Flashes, Watson coached at Southern Illinois, South Dakota, Western Illinois, Southern California (USC), and Drake.
