GSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Simmons Receives Four-Year Contract

GRAMBLING, La. | The University of Louisiana Board approved a four-year contract for new Grambling State University Women's Basketball Head Coach Courtney Simmons, announced on Friday. Her contract runs through 2028. 

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Simmons to the GramFam," said Vice president of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Trayvean Scott. "Her body of work, knowledge of the game and reputation as a leader and someone who genuinely cares about her student-athletes truly makes her the right fit for Grambling State University."

Simmons who was officially introduced as head coach of the women's basketball program on April 6, comes to GSU after spending the past decade as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Troy University. 

"I am beyond thankful for this opportunity to serve, lead, and educate the young women in my program," said Simmons. "I look forward to the future and the promise of a new tomorrow. One opportunity used wisely can change your life dramatically and I don't take this responsibility lightly and I look forward to the building of something special."

In her 10 seasons with the Trojans, Simmons helped guide the Trojans to five Sun Belt Championships and six post season berths including three NCAA Tournament appearances.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., she played at the University of Louisville (2006-08) with two NCAA Tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 appearance. Prior to her two seasons at Louisville she played one season at Trinity Valley after beginning her career at Tulane in 2004-05.
Simmons received her bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Louisville in 2008.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
