LOGAN, Utah – Utah State Interim Athletics Director Jerry Bovee announced Thursday that Sean McInerney has retired from serving as the head women's tennis coach for the Aggies.

"On behalf of Utah State Athletics, I want to thank Sean for his contributions to the women's tennis program over the last decade," Bovee said. "His passion for the sport and dedication to the success of our student-athletes on and off the court was immense. We wish him the best as he begins the next phase of his professional career."

McInerney has served as head coach of the Aggies since the program's first year in the Mountain West in 2014, compiling a record of 101-112. Under McInerney's tutelage, Utah State earned 12 spots on all-MW singles teams and four duos on all-MW doubles teams. Furthermore, McInerney helped former Aggie McKenzie Davis to USU's first ITA Regional championship in program history in 2014.

Utah State defeated nine nationally-ranked teams during McInerney's tenure and led the Aggies to a national ranking of their own on three occasions. USU finished within the top eight of the regional rankings five times. The Aggies went 5-8 in the MW Tournament under McInerney, advancing to the quarterfinals in five-consecutive seasons from 2015-19.

The Aggies also excelled in the classroom under McInerney. Across his 10 seasons at the helm, USU earned 61 academic all-MW and 35 MW Scholar-Athlete honors. Utah State also received ITA Scholar-Athlete honors 19 times in that time frame.

"It has been my privilege to serve as the head coach of the Utah State women's tennis program for the past 10 years," McInerney said. "First and foremost, I want to thank all student-athletes for their trust, loyalty and hard work. The memories we made will last a lifetime and I'm grateful for them.

"Second of all, I want to thank Utah State University's administration for giving me the support, resources and opportunities that allowed our program to compete at the highest level every year," McInerney continued.

"Let me finish by saying thanks to the Cache Valley community and the Sports Academy & Racquet Club for providing our program with such a special home," McInerney said. "Having a great fan base has made home matches a special event - one of the best home-court advantages in the conference.

"I am confident the best days of this program are ahead. With the same passion I had as a coach, I can't wait to be a fan and supporter of the program."
