LOWELL – With the help of 1,000 donors, the UMass Lowell Athletics Department raised over $210,000 during the university’s sixth annual Days of Giving, April 11-13. The outpouring of support from River Hawk Nation set a new record for funds raised by the department since the inception of the 48-hour event.

“What a tremendous couple of days for our athletic department. We were able to reach numbers that we have not seen in any prior year,” said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Corporate Partnerships and Development Eric Allen. “The results are a direct testament to our amazing donors showing their dedication to and passion for supporting our student-athletes. Likewise, our staff and student-athletes continue to lead by example, which is humbling to be a part of.”

Days of Giving gifts did not just come from outside sources, as over 90 percent of current River Hawk student-athletes and staff also donated. Nine teams and four athletics support areas reached 100 percent participation.

Baseball team falls

BRIGHTON – The UMass Lowell baseball team fell to the 11th-ranked Boston College Eagles, 9-3, on Wednesday night.

“A lot of guys got opportunities tonight,” said UML head coach Ken Harring. “Miles Cota was really good again. We were done in by the free passes we issued and lack of timely hitting.”

Junior Fritz Genther (Kingston, N.Y.) and sophomore Jacob Humphrey (Standish, Maine) each had two hits in the loss for the River Hawks (12-26, 5-10 AE). Genther added two RBIs and one run. Graduate student Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) and redshirt freshman Spencer Aubin (Dover, N.H.) each scored a run.

Senior Miles Cota (Hampstead, N.C.) got the start and threw a scoreless first frame. Graduate student Zach Rodgers (Parrish, Fla.) went 1.0 inning and struck out two while sophomore Hayden Duke (Mattapoisett) went 0.1 inning and fell to 0-1 on the season with one strikeout. Graduate student Shane Bogli (Vernon, Conn.) and freshman Brian Foley (Milton) each recorded one strikeout.
