WILSON, N.C. – Barton College has named
J.T. Deppe Head Men's Volleyball Coach, the school's Division of Athletics announced earlier today. Deppe served as interim coach this past spring but has now become the Bulldogs' permanent mentor.
"
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to formally announce J.T. Deppe as our Head Men's Volleyball Coach," said Britney Woodhull-Smith, Barton's Interim Director of Athletics. "
In the short time that he has been here, J.T. has exceeded all of our expectations. He brings a passion and a fire that has radiated through our team this semester. We look forward to seeing the continued growth of the program under his leadership."
Deppe, a 2021 graduate of King University (Tenn.), led the Bulldogs to five victories this year after the squad suffered through a winless campaign the year prior.
"
I am so incredibly blessed to have been offered the head men's volleyball head coaching position," said Deppe. "
The few months as interim head coach gave me an opportunity to learn and embrace the Barton College culture and I love it. There are many thanks that I would like to give. The first of which is Britney Woodhull-Smith as well as the rest of the athletic department staff for all their support and belief in me."
"
The second round of thanks goes to my guys on the team," added Deppe.
"These young men gave this slightly older man the amount of attention and respect that even I did not expect when I accepted the position in December. Finally, my last round of thanks goes to all the family and friends who have been my biggest supporters and in my corner from the start. I could not be more grateful for them. I'm extremely excited for this journey and cannot wait to put Barton men's volleyball where it deserves to be at the top of the Conference Carolinas standings. Go Bulldogs!"
Deppe was a standout player for the Tornado, leading the squad to a pair of Conference Carolinas Championships (2018-19), the 2018 league tournament title and a berth in the NCAA National Tournament (2018). The five-year letter winner ranks third all-time on the program's list for assists as well.
A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Deppe earned his MBA from King 2022 and was the school's Al Nida Award Winner for Male Athlete of the Year.
