SEPT. 7 UPDATE: Teevens Family Recovery Message

Coach Teevens’ wife, Kirsten, provides another update on his recovery

7/26/2023 6:00:00 PM

Sept. 7, 2023: Kirsten Teevens, the wife of Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach Eugene F. "Buddy" Teevens '79, has provided another update on his recovery from his bicycle accident to share with the Dartmouth community:

"It's difficult to describe the range of emotions we as a family have gone through in the wake of Buddy's accident. As a family, we have decided to periodically update the community.

"His doctors have advised us it is not prudent or necessary to offer personal medical details, as the process can be unpredictable. Buddy suffered significant injuries and as a result will not be returning to Memorial Field this fall.

"No one cares more about the Dartmouth Football program than Buddy Teevens. He has expressed his confidence in Coach McCorkle, his staff and most of all, his players. Our family wholeheartedly thanks everyone for the continued support, grace and respect being shown to us during this difficult time."

July 26, 2023: Kirsten checked in with this update on Buddy's recovery:

"Buddy and I have moved to Boston where he will continue his rehabilitation closer to family and close friends. Respect for our privacy has aided in creating a healing environment and we are very appreciative. Letters of love and support sent through the Dartmouth Athletics Department have also brightened our days, so thank you."

April 18, 2023: Kirsten provided this initial update on his recovery:

"We would like to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of love and support for Buddy. It has been nothing short of amazing and we are so grateful. As Buddy navigates through the healing of his injuries, he is experiencing many positive improvements. Unfortunately, as a result of the accident, Buddy's right leg was amputated due to the severity of the injury. He is alert and communicating with us and ready for transfer to a premier rehab facility to continue healing. Spinal cord injuries are challenging, and if anybody is up for the challenge, it is Buddy. We appreciate your continued respect of our privacy as we navigate this ongoing recovery process as a family."
