Sailing Adds Forrer as Head Coach

Esteban Forrer is a former All-American skipper and National Champion coach

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 30, 2022) - Associate Vice President of Athletics Pennie Parker has announced the hiring of Esteban Forrer to take over the Rollins sailing program.

"We are thrilled to add a coach of Esteban's caliber to our staff," remarked Parker. "Not only is he a decorated sailor, his coaching resume is equally as impressive. Any time you can bring a national champion coach onboard, it's an easy decision."

Forrer has been involved in sailing since the age of seven, traveling to San Diego from his hometown of Tucson, Arizona for training. As a member of the Old Dominion University sailing team, Forrer was named team MVP three times (2014-16), was selected as a Intercollegiate Sailing Association All-American three times (2014-16), and was the MAISA Conference Sportsman of the Year as a senior in 2016. In the classroom, Esteban earned a degree in Maritime and Supply Chain Management, a degree in Finance, and a minor in Criminal Justice.

Forrer began his coaching career during the summer break of his collegiate days at Coronado Yacht Club in San Diego. He also spent time as Race Coach at Wianno Yacht Club (Osterville, Mass.), volunteer coach at the University of Pennsylvania, and has spent the past four years at Jacksonville University.

During his time at JU, Forrer served as the associate head coach for the renowned Dolphins program. Under his guidance, Jacksonville has taken home two Single Handed National Titles, a 3rd place podium finish at Match Race Nationals, a 3rd place podium finish at the Open National Championship, and multiple conference championships. While at JU, he also earned an MBA and a masters in Sports Management.

"I'm elated to join the team, and help the Tars achieve something special," said Forrer.

Forrer will ease his way into the position as he supplants Director of the Boathouse and interim head coach, Dave Herbster. Forrer will begin recruiting efforts on December 1, will coach the Tars during SAISA points regattas in the spring of 2023, and will take over full-time beginning in June 2023.

"We are so excited to have this terrific, young coach join the Rollins staff," said Herbster. "Esteban is a three-time All-American who has learned from some of the top coaches in the country. The addition of Esteban to the staff turns up the lights on the bright future of Rollins sailing."
