Ethan Thomson Named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

Ethan Thomson has been named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Alfred State College.  Thomson will take the reins of a newly reinstated men's lacrosse program that is set to begin playing in the spring of 2025.

Thomson spoke on his hire "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Jason Doviak, President Mauro, and the search committee for the opportunity to restart the Alfred State Men's Lacrosse program. Alfred State is a remarkable institution, composed of wonderful people in and out of the classroom. I am honored and humbled to be welcomed into the Pioneer Family, and excited to build relationships across campus, with alumni, and with the whole community to lay the foundation of the Men's Lacrosse Program at Alfred State College."

Thomson's experience as a DIII head coach, NJCAA head coach, high school head coach, and as an NCAA Division II athlete, have prepared him well to lead the program. Thomson has most recently served as the head coach La Roche University where he proved in his short period of time the ability to bring in strong recruiting classes. He also was at the helm of Mohawk Valley Community College Men's Lacrosse Program for two years from 2016-2018.

Director of Athletics Jason Doviak spoke on Thomson leading the program. "We are thrilled that Ethan is joining our Pioneer family. He emerged from a strong pool of candidates as the ideal fit for reestablishing our men's lacrosse program. His lacrosse knowledge along with his vision, passion, and enthusiasm were apparent throughout the search process. Ethan's familiarity with New York coupled with his strong recruiting plan will allow our program to become very competitive in a short period of time. We are looking forward to competing in the spring of 2025."

Thomson's focus on teamwork, creating and maintaining a positive team culture, an atmosphere of inclusivity, and developing athletic skills and character are all strategies he plans to utilize in his new role.  His recruiting strategy and experience will be a major factor in restarting the Alfred State Lacrosse Program.  Thomson's first day will be December 1.
