East Texas A&M to Opt-In to NCAA Settlement

COMMERCE – East Texas A&M University announced on Friday its decision to opt-in to the proposed terms of the House vs. NCAA settlement and the NCAA's new revenue sharing plan.

"This decision is a further demonstration of our commitment to position East Texas A&M as one of the preeminent Division I FCS institutions in the country. Our continuing efforts to provide enhanced benefits to student-athletes will ensure successful academic outcomes and fuel the championship pedigree that has produced six national championships and 105 conference championships for Lion Athletics," said Director of Athletics Jim Curry.

East Texas A&M is currently in the third year of the NCAA Division I reclassification process and announced its intention to pursue the accelerated reclassification track earlier this month. Upon successful completion, East Texas A&M would secure full Division I membership status in August 2025.

By electing to opt-in to the House vs. NCAA settlement, the Lions are committed to establishing a framework to provide enhanced benefits directly to student-athletes, maintaining a highly competitive and compliant athletics program, and securing additional protections from future antitrust litigation related to name, image, and likeness (NIL) legislation.
