Matt Cosinuke Signs New Three-Year Contract Through 2025

RICHMOND, Ky. – Fresh off one of the best soccer seasons in program history, Eastern Kentucky University has signed head soccer coach Matt Cosinuke to a new three-year contract through the 2025 season, Vice President and Director of Athletics Matt Roan announced on Monday evening.

Cosinuke will enter his fifth season at the helm of the program when the 2023 campaign kicks off in August.

"I'd like to thank Matt Roan, Rachel Slone and the university for their belief in the direction of the program and investment into our success," said Cosinuke. "EKU is a special place and I am honored to serve this family. I believe very deeply we are capable of even greater heights and look forward to what is to come."

The Colonels capped their 2022 season with an overall record of 9-7-2 and their second straight ASUN Conference Championship semifinal appearance.

Under Cosinuke's guidance, EKU became one of two programs in ASUN history to advance in the tournament in the first two seasons as a member institution in the conference. Before the 2022 season, the feat had not been accomplished since Jacksonville in 1998-1999.

In 2021-22, EKU recorded nine wins in back-to-back seasons for the second time in program history, doubling its win total from his first two seasons.

During the 2022 season, EKU reached its most home wins since 2016 and tied for the third-most home victories in program history. The Colonels achieved the third-highest national rank in program history of No. 98 by the NCAA RPI rankings on Sept. 19, 2022.

"We recognize the positive contributions Matt has made, and continues to make, in the development of our program and student-athletes, both on and off the pitch," said Roan. "We appreciate his passion and vision for the program, and we are excited to have him leading Colonel Soccer and chasing championships and excellence for years to come."

Since Cosinuke's arrival, EKU has defeated three schools in the NCAA RPI top 100 and one school in the top 50. The program also earned three United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Players honors, the first in program history, and nine conference postseason honors including the ASUN Freshman of the Year in De Diego in 2021.
