Brian Holsinger Lady Griz

MISSOULA, Mont. – Brian Holsinger has officially stepped down as head coach of the University of Montana women's basketball team, Griz Athletics announced on Monday.

Nate Harris will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Harris has been leading the program for the past few weeks since the University announced on January 16 that Holsinger would be taking a leave from the program

A search for a permanent head coach will begin after the season concludes, a statement from the department said.

The University has released the details of the termination of coach Holsinger's contract, which includes a buyout payment to Holsinger of $115,250 and was signed by Montana athletic director Kent Haslam and Holsinger on Monday, as well as Shane Coleman, the attorney for Holsinger.

However they have yet to offer any insight into the cause of Holsinger's sudden departure. Sources close to the program informed SWX Montana that Holsinger's resignation is connected to an altercation with another member of the coaching staff.

Holsinger had served as head coach of the Lady Griz program since April of 2021. He ends his coaching career in Missoula with an overall record of 61-47, including a 5-10 (1-3 conference) start to the current season.

Since Holsinger's departure from the program, Montana has gone on to play some of their best basketball of the year. The Lady Griz (10-13, 6-6) have posted a 5-3 record since that time, moving up to fifth place in the league standings.
