Becky Cramer, UCF rowing coach since the 2008-09 season, has resigned.
She spent 20 seasons at UCF as either the head coach or as an assistant coach. Cramer began as an assistant for four seasons, served as interim head coach in 2008 and accepted the full-time assignment in June 2008.
"I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to have coached so many amazing women over the past two decades and I am incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such talented and wonderful people," said Cramer. "I would like to thank the student-athletes, alumni, current and former coaches/staff, our families and Knight Nation who have all helped drive this program from regional prominence to success at the national level. UCF rowing has come so far since 2003, but the department is entering an exciting time as it transitions to the Big 12 and it is time for another coach to lead the program. I am stepping away to spend more time with my family, but I am excited to watch UCF continue to make an impact."
Cramer's teams won five consecutive American Athletic Conference crowns from 2015 through 2019—making NCAA Championship appearances in each of those seasons. Her Knights made history in 2019 when the varsity four became the first UCF boat to post a top-15 finish at the NCAA Championships. Cramer's squad that year posted its fifth-straight top-20 finish in the NCAAs, matching its best team finish at 18th (also in 2017).
"We appreciate Becky's long commitment to UCF rowing. She impacted many young women's lives in a positive way. We wish her the best of luck and great success in her next endeavors," said UCF vice president and director of athletics Terry Mohajir.
"Montia Rice, who has been serving as interim head coach, will continue in that role through the conclusion of the 2023 season. We will initiate a national search for our next head coach at the conclusion of spring competition."
In 2018 Cramer was voted the USRowing Fan's Choice Collegiate Coach of the Year. She and her UCF staff earned their third American Athletic Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2017. As a Knight assistant, she coached three-time All-American Krystina Sarff (2006-08), also a member of the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame.
Cramer served as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego for two years prior to her arrival in Orlando--and previously was the men's novice crew coach at the University of Notre Dame for a year.
As an undergraduate at Dartmouth, Cramer rowed for the Big Green and competed in the 1997 and 1998 NCAA Championships. She graduated from Dartmouth in 2000.
