Burkett Transitions to New Role as Assistant Director of Athletics

1/24/2025 11:43:00 AM

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg director of athletics Rahsaan Carlton has announced that women's volleyball head coach Angela Burkett will transition into the role of assistant director of athletics, effective immediately.

Burkett currently serves as the college's senior woman administrator (SWA), academic success coordinator and one of the school's Title IX coordinators. She took over as women's volleyball head coach in 2016 after serving as an assistant the prior two seasons.

"I am very excited for Angela to take on this new role," said Carlton. "She has done a tremendous job building our women's volleyball program over the last decade and this move will help bolster our administration as we prepare for the potential growth of our athletic department in the future."

After taking the helm of the women's volleyball program in 2016, Burkett led Penn State Harrisburg to five conference championship tournament appearances, while her players combined to earn an NCAA Woman of the Year Award nomination, an NCAA Statistical Championship, a conference player of the year plaudit and 13 all-conference accolades.

Along with the additional duties of her expanded role, Burkett's new designation will allow her to focus on her primary responsibilities as SWA, the highest-ranking female in each NCAA athletic department or conference office, as well as the athletic department's primary liaison to Penn State Harrisburg's academic advising and learning centers. She is also the department's primary point of contact for Title IX.

With Burkett stepping down as head coach, assistant Alexandra Kon will serve as women's volleyball's interim head coach. Kon, along with other potential candidates, will be considered in a national search for the program's next head coach later this spring.
