NOW, KEEP IN MIND, REMEMBER THIS MEETING DID START AT 11:00. AND AS PROMISED, THEY GOT BACK WITH ME AT 1110. NOW, OUR SOURCES INSIDE SAY THAT THE PRESIDENT, DANIEL COLEMAN OF BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN, WAS VERY EMOTIONAL TO MAKE THIS ANNOUNCEMENT, BUT THERE ARE STILL QUESTIONS THAT CERTAINLY REMAIN. HOW ARE THEY ABLE TO KEEP THE CAMPUS OPEN AFTER THIS SCHOOL YEAR? DID THEY GET MONEY FROM A PRIVATE SWORDS? DID THEY HAVE ENOUGH DONATIONS COMING IN? ALSO, IN A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SCHOOL, THEY SAID THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH CREATING SOME TYPE OF COMMITTEE TO GO OUT AND CONTINUE TO FUNDRAISE. SO IT’S GOING TO BE VERY INTERESTING TO FIND OUT HOW ARE THEY GOING TO GET THEMSELVES OUT OF THIS FINANCIAL TROUBLES THAT THEY HAVE BEEN IN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. AND WHEN WILL THEY GET TO A POINT WHERE THEY CAN SAFELY AND COMFORTABLY OPERATE THIS CAMPUS? BUT WE’RE GOING TO STAY HERE. WE’RE GOING TO LEARN MORE. Birmingham-Southern College to stay open
The Birmingham-Southern College's Board of Trustees voted to keep the college open.This comes, as the college continues to work on fundraising efforts to restore the college's endowment.According to a news release, the school has secured nearly $46M in pledges from private donors. School officials say that bridge funding from public sources will allow BSC more time to help meet a goal of $200M in endowment.Watch the video below to hear from excited students about the latest developments.“The Board of Trustees has made the informed and thoughtful decision to keep Birmingham-Southern open,” said the Rev. Keith D. Thompson ‘83, chair of the Board. “We have been working closely with our allies in state and local government to secure bridge funding.” “Thanks to their leadership, the Board felt comfortable with moving forward, and has charged President Daniel Coleman with preparing for a public fundraising campaign to restore the College’s endowment,” Thompson said. Much work lies ahead for the College, Coleman said. “We are already reaching out to our prospective students and will be hiring faculty and staff to ensure that we are delivering the full BSC experience this fall,” he said. “We will also be gearing up for the public phase of the endowment campaign, which will ensure our long-term financial resilience.”
