Alamosa, Colo. – After three seasons, Adams State men's soccer head coach Justin Gilfert is stepping down to pursue another head coaching opportunity.
"First off, I'd like to thank Katelyn Smith for giving me the opportunity to become a head coach and believing in not only myself but the program in general. I wouldn't be going where I'm going if it wasn't for her and the opportunity that she gave me. Secondly, I'd like to thank each player who has come through this program since I arrived in 2022. There have been some fantastic players, but even better human beings off the field," said Gilfert
During his three years at Adams State, Gilfert amassed a record of 3-43-4 overall and 1-27-2 in RMAC play.
"We are so thankful and appreciative of Coach Gilfert and everything he has done for the men's soccer program. I am happy for him and I wish him the absolute best of luck as he takes on this new endeavour."
Gilfert's student-athletes earned one RMAC All-Conference second-team selection and three honorable mentions. Additionally, 12 student-athletes were named to the RMAC Academic All-Conference honorable mention list during him time.
"Lastly, I'd like to thank the current players and staff for working day in and day out to make this program better and for making my job easier each season. I know the results show differently, but when you look at each kid who has come through and is currently here, there's a bright future ahead. As excited as I am for this new chapter in my coaching career, I'm equally excited to see where this program goes and will be a fan of the team going forward. Again, thank you to everyone who has been involved and supported the team from the first day I stepped on campus!"
A national search for Gilfert's replacement is underway.
