MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville Director of Athletics, Matt Grawrock, has announced the addition of women's track and field as an intercollegiate program for the 2023-24 season.
 
The addition brings sport sponsorship for the Mustangs to nine for women's athletic teams, and 17 overall.
 
"We're excited to enter a new era with the offering of women's track and field for the 2023-24 athletic season," Grawrock said. "The opportunity not only aligns with the college's strategic plan in the commitment to creating a campus community for continued interaction and growth, but also allows the opportunity to assist in increasing recruitment and retention of students for the institution."
 
Derek Powers, head men's and women's cross country coach, will oversee the program with assistance from Gary Parker, current assistant cross country coach.
 
"I'm confident that Coach Powers and Parker will lead the program to a successful inaugural season," Grawrock said.
 
"They are well connected within the track and field community and I anticipate student-athletes under their guidance will have as meaningful of a collegiate experience as they have proved with the success our cross country programs have had in recent years."
 
Morrisville begins membership within the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in 2023-24, and will compete in the conference's league championship in 2024.
