Men’s Lacrosse Head Coaching Position Endowed

Generous anonymous gift adds momentum to a team on the rise

A new gift from an anonymous donor has endowed the head coach of men's lacrosse, the 26th position in the Department of Athletics to be endowed to date. This news comes as men's lacrosse passes the midpoint in the team's strongest season to date since 2003, including their stunning comeback and overtime victory over Harvard on Saturday, March 25, for their first Ivy League win since 2015.

"Endowed coaching positions are a remarkable endorsement of the educational role that a coach plays in the holistic development of student-athletes," Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation Mike Harrity said. "We are grateful for the extraordinary generosity of this anonymous donor and the sustained support it will provide the men's lacrosse program."

Coaching endowments generate vital annual income to address a sport's most pressing needs — such as more competitive salaries, team travel, recruiting and technology. Supporting co-curricular aspects of the Dartmouth experience to develop future leaders is a priority of The Call to Lead campaign. Gifts to Athletics not only enhance the competitiveness of Big Green teams, they provide an innovative mix of leadership-learning opportunities, particularly through the distinctive Dartmouth Peak Performance program.

"This is an honor and such a boost to me, the rest of the coaching staff and the team," says Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse Brendan Callahan. "These guys are putting their all into every game, and to know that someone has stepped up to invest so deeply in what we're doing feels amazing."
