Pacman Jones on WVU: "We're rounding up funds to pay to play"

West Virginia University athletics has taken hits since the transfer portal and NIL has ushered in a new era of college athletics, and its biggest hit has come on the football field.

The football program has seen multiple stars depart for 'greener pastures', but few have found the success they once had in Morgantown, and in turn, losing all-conference talent the staff developed and were leaning on toward the following year, has shown on the scoreboard. 

West Virginia University president Gordon Gee made a change last fall with the firing of athletics director Shane Lyons and hired Wren Baker in his place to get WVU caught up in the new NIL world. 

Former WVU defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones has stayed in touch with his Morgantown roots and was recently on campus on a recruiting visit with Chris Henry Jr. and also took time to address the team at practice.

Jones visited the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and informed his former teammate WVU is raising NIL money.

"We got money, and we got a new AD," said Jones. "Mr. Baker is, I already had a chance to meet him while I was there, unbelievable guy, and talked about the different things that we're trying to do to get us back to the top."

"I just think this year with all the stuff I've learned the last month in a half - two months, we're rounding up funds to pay to play, "continued Jones. 

The conversation was sparked by the announcement of Baker's first hire at WVU. On Monday, Baker announced Mark Kellogg as the new head coach of the women's basketball program, which everyone in the studio endorsed. 

McAfee stated in the past he did not have a good relationship with WVU since he graduated, but the university has allegedly taken steps to mend the fence. Prior to Jones sharing his thoughts on the football program, McAfee reaffirmed he doesn't have the same relationship with WVU football program as Jones, although McAfee stated, "somebody hand delivered us letters from Morgantown a week ago broke into the place to do this whole thing."
