Gagnier, Seren, and Zegarelli Earn Promotions for Geneseo Athletics

The SUNY Geneseo Department of Athletics and Recreation is proud to announce promotions for three veteran staff members for their dedication and performance excellence.

Assistant Athletic Director George Gagnier '88 will assume the role of Senior Associate Athletic Director with oversight for facility operations, scheduling, event management, and special events.  Since receiving his bachelor's degree at Geneseo in 1988, Gagnier has worn multiple hats, including 17 years as the Knights' Sports Information Director and another 12 as the Assistant Athletic Director.   Gagnier is well-known throughout the campus and community for his extensive involvement with Hall of Fame and Geneseo alumni events, with local clubs, community organizations, and as the voice of the Ice Knights, Geneseo's Men's Ice Hockey program.

Jess Seren has served as the Knights' Assistant Athletic Director since 2018 after spending ten years as the Head Coach of the Field Hockey program.  Seren is the department's NCAA Compliance officer and Senior Woman Administrator.  Additionally, she has been the driving force behind the development of multiple student leadership programs including the Student-Athlete Mentor program and Student-Athlete Resource Center, which provide support services for all student-athletes. Seren's promotion reflects the scope of those responsibilities and includes the title of Associate Athletic Director.

Head Athletic Trainer Angelo Zegarelli has led the Knights' sports medicine program since 2015.  Zegarelli's expertise reaches beyond NATA certification, bringing National Strength and Conditioning Association and nutrition specialist certification to SUNY Geneseo.  Over the last several years, including COVID-impacted NCAA competition, Zegarelli's responsibilities have expanded to include additional concussion, mental health, and nutrition protocols. While he retains the title of Head Athletic Trainer, Zegarelli's SUNY rank increases with this promotion.

"These three Knights combine for over 50 years of dedication to SUNY Geneseo and every single day we see their commitment to our student-athletes and our institution," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Dani Drews. "Through their promotions, we are able to show our gratitude and recognize each of them for their excellence."
