RALEIGH, N.C. – Former Wolfpack student-athletes Trea Turner and Kristen (Harabedian) Turner have made a $1 million pledge to NC State Athletics. The Turners' generous gift will benefit both the baseball and gymnastics programs and marks the largest gift from a former NC State student-athlete who is currently playing professionally.

The Turners' gift will help create a state-of-the-art indoor hitting facility for current and future NC State baseball players and to support the greatest needs of the NC State gymnastics program.

"We are so appreciative of Trea and Kristen for the love they have for NC State and for their decision to give back," said Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. "This is a transformational gift that means even more coming from two former Wolfpack student-athletes."

Both Trea (baseball) and Kristen (gymnastics) are highly-decorated former NC State student-athletes.

Trea earned a total of seven All-America honors, as well as the Brooks Wallace Award for the nation's most outstanding shortstop (2014) during his three-year Wolfpack career. He thrived for Elliott Avent's squad from 2012-14, finishing his career with a .342 batting average, 38 doubles, 121 RBI and 113 stolen bases. Turner's 57 steals during his freshman year mark an NC State baseball single-season record. He also ranks second in the category with 30 steals in 2013.

In 2013, Turner and his teammates set an NC State record with 50 victories in an incredible 50-16 season, reaching the College World Series for the second time in program history and first time since 1968. The Wolfpack won its first six games in the postseason in 2013, posting a perfect 3-0 record in the Raleigh Regional and a two-game sweep of Rice in the Raleigh Super Regional.

Following his NC State career, Turner was selected No. 13 overall in the 2014 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. He has been named an All-Star twice and helped the Washington Nationals capture the World Series title in 2019.

"Every gift given to honor and uphold the proud tradition of NC State baseball is vitally important," said head coach Elliott Avent. "This most generous gift from Trea and Kristen Turner means a lot for the stadium improvements, but speaks volumes to what the program and the university means to them.

"Former athletes who give back to the place where they honed their athletic talents, continued their education and built lifelong relationships speaks volumes of their love for and the value they place on their college years. On behalf of every former player, coach and the current players and staff, we'd like to thank Trea and Kristen for their most generous gift. It means more than words can express."
N.C. Gymnastic Team participated in the Sweet Heart Invitational on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C. N.C. State won the overall team competition.
