SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Athletics Department nearly doubled its initial fundraising goal for the annual SRU Giving Day that took place Friday, March 24, bringing in $194,316 from a total of 391 unique donors.
Â
"We cannot thank our supporters enough for their generosity during Giving Day," said Roberta Page, SRU director of athletics. "We set a goal of $100,000 this year and we nearly doubled that over the weekend. We want to publicly thank all the supporters that donated to help improve the experiences for Slippery Rock student-athletes. We cannot be successful without your generous support and we are filled with gratitude after seeing the results of this year's Giving Day."
Â
The SRU Foundation will donate an additional $1,000 to the three teams that raised the most money during Giving Day with football, baseball and track and field earning those bonuses. The Rock football team brought in $51,681 from 28 donors, while baseball raised $39,678 from 78 donors and track and field raised $34,581 from 37 donors.
Â
In total, 391 donors generated $194,316 spread out across 14 funds that support individual teams and SRU Athletics as a whole. That total represents more than 27 percent of the entire Giving Day total raised for SRU this year with the University bringing in an impressive $702,603 from 1,396 donors.
Â
The funds raised on Giving Day will support scholarships, operating expenses, travel costs, facility upgrades and equipment purchases for SRU's 17 NCAA Division II sports teams.
Â
The $194,316 total represents a 131 percent increase from the $84,000 raised for Athletics during the 2022 SRU Giving Day.
