Job Description:

The Athletics department at the University at Albany seeks an Assistant Director of Digital Content and Communications. This is a full-time position  responsible for assisting the Assistant Athletic Director of External Relations and the general athletic administration with the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department's Communications Department. The Assistant Director will be responsible for providing creative video services, developing and implementing a robust digital and social media, plan and providing traditional communications-based services for assigned teams to promote the University's Athletics Department, its student-athletes, and coaches.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Responsible for all communications-related activities for assigned sports, including but not limited to; general stories, game stories, statistics, box scores, game notes, press conferences, and creation and maintenance of the associated sports media guides.
  • Work independently and as a part of a team to produce highlight/interview packages, behind-the-scenes features, student-athlete profiles, social media hype videos, human interest stories, intro videos, commercials, and in-game marketing elements.
  • Responsible for working individually and as a part of a team to ensure the high-quality management and direction of the @UAlbanySports social media channels, as well as general oversight and collaboration with each of our individual team/department social media channels and the INFLCR media database.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Fan Experience, Creative Content, and Communication teams to build and maintain a robust social media calendar for short-term initiatives and long-term campaigns, while also collaborating to create engaging content and storytelling in support of UAlbany Athletics coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
  • Ensure daily accurate and up-to-date information for assigned programs on UAlbanySports.com, departmental and team social media accounts, the UAlbany Athletics mobile app, and various other communications outlets.
  • Work independently and as a part of the Communications Team to facilitate and increase media attention to the athletic department locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Pitch and execute unique story ideas promoting our coaches, student-athletes, and staff.
  • Provide media training, including interview strategies and other educational opportunities for coaches, student-athletes, and staff.
  • Provide direct supervision to graduate and student interns.
  • Attend the mandatory sexual violence prevention program as required by federal, state, SUNY, and University policies and procedures prior to or at the beginning of the academic year.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of External Relations.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • One to two years of experience working in or with sports video production, communications, and social media management within college athletics or professional sports fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premier Pro), statistical software (StatCrew, Genius Sports & NCAA Live Stats), website content management systems (preferably SIDEARM), video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro, and extensive knowledge of various social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok.)
  • Experience in creative video, including technical skills with DSLR/cinema cameras and editing on non-linear editing software with the ability to demonstrate creativity in both shooting and editing, and produce innovative content without direct supervision.
  • General knowledge of NCAA, CAA, America East & MAAC rules and regulations.
  • Must possess a good understanding of collegiate athletics and be able to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Capacity to work with people in a multi-ethnic environment and develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Ability to work an extensive night and weekend work schedule.
