03/23/2023

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Jack Bowe has been promoted to head coach for the College of Saint Benedict tennis team, according to an announcement today (March 23) by Director of Athletics Kelly Anderson Diercks.

Bowe, who has directed CSB to a 6-3 record overall and 3-1 in the MIAC in 2023, was named interim head coach on July 19, 2022. In this announcement, Anderson Diercks has taken the interim tag away and promoted Bowe to head coach.

With a long history of success in coaching tennis, including a successful run at Saint Ben's from 1990-97, Bowe is a four-time MIAC Coach of the Year honoree. In addition to his work leading the Saint Ben's tennis team, he will continue to serve as the head coach for the Saint John's men's team.

"We are excited to announce that Jack will move into the head coach role for Bennie tennis moving forward. His record of success and incredible knowledge of the game coupled with his outgoing personality make him a great fit to lead our program," said Anderson Diercks. "We have observed how he has successfully prepared the team to compete at a high level this season and I look forward to seeing where he can take the program in the years to come," she said.

Bowe served as the Bennies' head coach for seven years in the mid-1990s, and guided CSB to top-five MIAC finishes in five of those seven seasons. CSB took third with a 9-2 conference mark and a 16-5 overall record in 1994-95 and finished fourth in his final season in 1996-97. Bowe, who has compiled a 71-52 overall record, including 45-29 in the MIAC, earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors in 1993. Before his return to CSB, he led the Bennies to five straight win seasons.

"I am extremely excited to be given the reigns for this program. We have talented student-athletes, supporters, including family and friends, who care about the program and an administration focused on making this program a success," said Bowe.

After leaving CSB in 1997, Bowe took over the Saint John's tennis program, and he has remained there ever since. While at SJU, Bowe compiled a 233-237 overall record and 117-104 mark in MIAC play. The Johnnies have finished in the top five of the conference standings in five of the last seven seasons, including a pair of third place finishes in 2018 and 2019.

Bowe earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors with the Johnnies in 2003, 2019 and again in 2022. Five athletes earned All-MIAC doubles honors and two more earned All-MIAC singles accolades under Bowe's watch in 2022.
