Stueck named head women’s soccer coach at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – University of New England Director of Athletics Heather Davis announced today that AJ Stueck will become the new head women's soccer coach, effective July 1.

"We are so excited to add AJ to our esteemed coaching staff," said Davis. "He has an exceptional track record of recruiting and is a passionate teacher of the game. AJ has proven to provide an elite student-athlete experience and will blend well with the culture here at UNE."

Stueck most recently served a year as the assistant women's soccer coach at Bates College.

"I want to sincerely thank Heather Davis and the hiring committee for giving me the opportunity to lead the women's soccer program," shared Stueck. "I am beyond excited to be a part of the UNE campus community, and am humbled to lead such a special group of student-athletes. I'd also like to thank Coach Joe Vari and the women's soccer team at Bates College for an amazing time together. You will forever hold a place in my heart."

Prior to Bates, Stueck spent three years (2019-21) as the head women's soccer coach at Eastern University. With a canceled 2020 season due to COVID, Stueck tallied 14 wins in two full seasons and mentored five student-athletes to all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) honors.

Stueck served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for Wesleyan University (Conn.) from 2016-18, helping to bring New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year and All-American Grace Devaney to the program.

"To the UNE players, I'm thrilled at the opportunity to be your coach, and promise to work tirelessly to ensure your soccer experience is the best part of your day," added Stueck.

He began his collegiate coaching career as the top assistant at Illinois College, where he helped the team achieve an 11-5-2 record in 2014 -- the most wins in program history. After Illinois, Stueck returned to his home state of Connecticut and served on the staff at Yale University.
