Texas State Breaks Ground on New Football Performance Center

Construction on the project will start this summer

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a ceremonial moment for the next chapter of Texas State football, Texas State broke ground on the new Football Performance Center at Bobcat Stadium on Monday.

University President Kelly Damphousse, Director of Athletics Don Coryell and head football coach GJ Kinne were joined by supporters and dignitaries to kick off the $37 million facility renovation and addition to the existing complex. Donors to the project were also on hand, including Texas State University Heroes Johnny and Nathali Weisman, Bo and Darlene Trevillion, and Scott Emerson.

Pending Texas State University Board of Regents approval, the Football Performance Center will be named in honor of the Weisman family. The Weismans supported the project with a gift that was announced this past March. Johnny is one of Texas State's Distinguished Alumni and Nathali is a former Texas State student-athlete.

"Today is a great day for our football program and the direction we are heading as a university," said Coryell. "This project was a vision over a year ago, but because of the support by Bobcat fans and alumni, we are taking a substantial step towards making it a reality. We appreciate the support of Johnny and Nathali Weisman, Bo and Darlene Trevillion, Scott and Yvonne Emerson, and all of the people who have chosen to support the Football Performance Center so far. It takes everyone to make this happen. Now it is time to get to work."

The Trevillion gift was made in support of the new weight room in the Football Performance Center. The weight room will be named in honor of William Trevillion IV, a Texas State football student-athlete who played for the Bobcats from 2013-16 before tragically passing away in January 2016.

The Football Performance Center is a renovation project to the existing complex, which includes a new 8,000 square foot weight room, a new players lounge, a new training room with hydrotherapy, individual position meeting rooms, upgraded conference rooms with additional offices, a recruiting room, and additional premium hospitality spaces for fans to enhance the gameday experience.

Construction on the project will start this summer. The fundraising campaign to fully support the project is ongoing.
