Slyter Steps Down As Head Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/17/23)---Chad Slyter announced that he is stepping down as head coach of the Concordia softball program.

"I would like to thank our former players for all their hard work, dedication and selflessness in building a program that achieved and made history two seasons ago and in my seven years as a Cobber," Slyter said.

Slyter recently finished his seventh season at the helm of the Cobbers. During his seven seasons, he won 74 total games and 21 in conference play.

Slyter guided Concordia to its first-ever MIAC playoff appearance in 2021, when the team went 9-13 in the MIAC and finished in sixth place. The Cobbers also went on to win the program's first playoff game that season. Concordia finished the year with a 22-21 overall record. The 22 wins tied the school record for victories in a single season.

During his tenure, Slyter coached eight players who received MIAC postseason honors and pitcher Megan Gavin, who was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Midwest All-Region Second Team in 2021.       

"I also would like to thank previous coach Mike Reese for recommending me for the position as well as Rachel Bergeson and Ben Schneweis for their support in administration," Slyter added. "Most importantly, I would like to thank my family, who has sacrificed many hours for me to do a job I love."

Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson said that the search for Slyter's replacement will begin immediately.
