STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point athletics has named Philip Kuenzi the permanent head coach of the men's and women's tennis program, removing the interim tag from this past season.

Kuenzi guided the UWSP women's program to its second-straight WIAC Team Tournament appearance. His women's team won 12 matches during the 2022-23 season. Four members of his women's squad earned College Sports Communicators Academic All0District honors earlier this month.

On the men's side, Kuenzi guided the Pointers to eight wins in the first year of the reinstated program. Sophomore Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) was an All-NJAC first team selection under Kuenzi's guidance. UWSP also earned the NJAC Player and NJAC Rookie of the Week six times during the year.

He came to UWSP from Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh where he last served as a middle school and high school technology teacher.

His tennis background included head coaching stints at Roncalli High School and Xavier High School for a combined five years. He also served as assistant director of tennis camps as UW-Whitewater for two years and had been on the camps staff there more than a decade.

Kuenzi played tennis collegiately at Lewis University for two years and was an ITA scholar-athlete. At Roncalli High, Kuenzi was a four-year state qualifier in doubles and finished second at the state tournament twice.

He received his bachelor's degree from Lewis in 2014 and completed his master's degree in 2019 at Holy Family College.
