OXFORD, Ohio—Miami University Athletics and baseball head coach
Danny Hayden have mutually agreed to part ways, Miami University Director of Athletics
David Sayler announced today.
"I appreciate and want to thank Danny for his work over the years with Miami Baseball," Director of Athletics David Sayler said. "I wish him the best as he goes forward and nothing but success in his future endeavors."
Hayden, hired in 2013, led the program for ten seasons, amassing a record of 240-273, a 2014 Mid-American Conference East title and back-to-back 35+ win seasons and MAC Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019, including the MAC Tournament Championship game in 2018. During his tenure, Coach Hayden produced 32 student-athletes named to All-MAC teams, 54 Academic All-MAC honorees, two Freshman All-America award winners and one All-American.
"I would like to thank Miami University and especially David Sayler for the opportunity to lead this baseball program for the last ten years," Hayden said. "I also want to thank all the young men who played for us. I love coaching because it gives you such an incredible opportunity to impact someone's life. When I was a player at Miami I was lucky enough to have coaches who so obviously cared about me and my teammates as human beings. I hope that players who played in our program felt that. I know how powerful that feeling is."
Coach Hayden mentored 10 RedHawks who were MLB draft picks during his time, including the 2021 ninth overall pick, Sam Bachman, to the Los Angeles Angels organization. Bachman was also named First-Team All-MAC in 2019 and 2021 and the 2019 MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
"I am frustrated that we did not win more games. Miami, and these players deserve a program that competes for championships every year," Hayden shared. "I did not win enough and that will be a fact that will frustrate me for a long time. However, I am very proud of the young men who are playing or who have played in our program. It has been such a blessing to get to coach all of these guys. I hope they know that I am beyond proud of them and that they have brought so much joy and fulfillment to my life. Thank you so much to all the players, coaches, managers, support staff and everyone involved with Miami Baseball. You have made such an impact on me. I will be forever grateful for my time here."
Miami University will begin a search for its next head coach immediately.
