ASHLAND, Wis.--- Northland College has announced that after nine years in Northland College's Athletics Department, Director of Athletics and Head Men's Hockey Coach Seamus Gregory has resigned to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Hired in July of 2014, Gregory was the fourth head men's hockey coach in Northland's history and spent the past nine seasons behind the LumberJacks bench. Gregory was named athletic director in June of 2020 after serving as interim athletic director starting in January 2019.

"When departing from any position, you always want to leave feeling like you made a difference and that it's in a better place than when you arrived, and I believe it is," said Gregory. "I love Northland College, the north woods, and everything it's given to our family."

Under Gregory, the Jacks played five seasons in the National Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) before joining the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference where they have been since 2019. He is the all-time leader in games coached and wins, qualifying for the playoffs six times and taking home the NCHA's 2016–17 Coach of the Year award.

"I've been blessed to have the opportunity to coach so many incredible young men and work with great people. It's a special place with a great tradition and history," Gregory shared.
In his administrative role, Gregory led fundraising and recruitment initiatives for the Athletics Department.

Gregory was very supportive of the area community, dedicating much of his time and efforts to building relationships between the Athletics Department and community partners in the regional area and beyond. He was also very active with local youth sport associations and other nonprofit organizations in the area.

Head Men's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Scott Sorenson will assume the director of athletics role on an interim basis.

A national search for a new head men's hockey coach will begin immediately.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
