Amended contract includes increases in salary and incentives
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State University and head women's basketball coach Ryun Williams have agreed to an amended contract which will keep the veteran coach in Fort Collins through the 2026-27 season, the school announced Tuesday.
"My family and I love being a part of the Colorado State community and calling Ram Country, home." said Williams. "It is an absolute privilege to be Colorado State's head women's basketball coach and I am very honored and humbled to receive this extension. I look forward to the continual challenge of building a championship program and a perennial contender in the Mountain West. I'd like to thank University President Amy Parsons, Director of Athletics Joe Parker and Senior Woman Administrator Shalini Shanker for their incredible belief in the job we are doing."
In Williams' 11 seasons leading the Rams, he's compiled a 212-128 (.624) overall record, including seven seasons with 20-plus victories and five conference championships. With his success comes seven postseason appearances in both the NCAA Tournament and the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).
The 2022-23 season saw Colorado State record its 16th 20-win season with seven under Williams' – most of any coach in program history. The Rams returned to postseason play with an appearance in the WNIT for the sixth time under Williams' direction. The season produced the first All-America honor in two decades with McKenna Hofschild being named by the Associated Press, following her selection as the Mountain West Player of the Year – the fourth award given to Colorado State and all under Williams.
"Ryun has done an excellent job leading our women's basketball program over the past 11 seasons," Parker said. "He continues to show his commitment to Colorado State with the successes our student-athletes have on and off the court. His drive to grow and help young people through the game of basketball continues well after their time in the Green and Gold. We are grateful for Ryun's leadership as he continues to develop our student-athletes and the championship culture around our team."
In Williams' tenure, the Rams have earned 19 All-Mountain West awards, including the past three Mountain West Newcomer of the Year honors. Williams has two Mountain West Coach of the Year awards to his name, coming after the 2013-14 regular season championship and after the 2015-16 season. The 2015-16 season saw the Rams win the regular season championship and the tournament on their way to a 31-2 overall record and a perfect 18-0 run in the Mountain West to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002.
Williams is also one of two coaches at Colorado State to be named the District Coach of the Year, his honor coming after the 2013-14 season when the Rams finished 25-8 overall and 15-3 in the Mountain West to play in the WNIT in Williams' second season.
In Williams' 28 years of coaching basketball, he holds a 524-319 (.622) overall record, including a 260-164 (.622) mark at the Division I level. He has finished 13 seasons with 20-or-more victories, including nine of the past 13. He is the all-time winningest coach at Colorado State in women's basketball and one of the winningest current coaches in the Mountain West.
