Mauricio Lozada Named Head Women's Soccer Coach

STORM LAKE, Iowa (May 9, 2023) - Buena Vista University Director of Athletics Scott Brown has announced the hiring of Mauricio Lozada as BVU's new head women's soccer coach, effective May 15.

Lozada is no stranger to the region as he has spent the past two seasons as a men's assistant soccer coach at Bethany Lutheran College. He also spent five seasons as an assistant women's and men's coach at St. Olaf College (2014-2018). In 2021, the Vikings went 13-1 during conference play and captured the league's regular season title. Lozada helped coach four all-conference players, including the league's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.

"We are exceptionally excited to welcome Coach Lozada to the Storm Lake community, to our University, and to BVU Athletics," says Brown. "The relationships that he possesses within the local, regional, and national soccer community, both as a Division III assistant coach and successful club soccer coach will be an asset for years to come. I know that he is eager to begin."

In addition to his coaching duties at the collegiate ranks, Lozada has spent nearly 10 years at the club levels during that same time. Since 2021, he has been the 11-14U Group Director for Tonka United and has also spent time with FC Boulder, Lakeville Soccer Club and Park Valley United.

"I am very excited to be joining the Buena Vista University community," says Lozada. "I am extremely thankful to Director of Athletics, Scott Brown, and the search committee for this amazing opportunity. The future is bright for the BVU women's soccer program, and I am honored to lead it to new heights. I look forward to getting to know alumni, family, friends, and future Beavers!"

Lozada earned his undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2013. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sports Management from Concordia University-St. Paul.
