Jesus Baltazar Named Head Tennis Coach

SILVER CITY, N.M. - Executive Director of Athletics, Scott Noble, has promoted Jesus Baltazar from Interim to Head Tennis Coach. Baltazar was named the interim head coach at the beginning of the season.

"We were very fortunate to have a young man who agreed to come as an interim head coach, with no guarantees, and as a result is now leading our men's and women's tennis programs," said Noble. "The tennis staffs at the University of Texas – El Paso and New Mexico State were very supportive of coach Baltazar and recommend with no reservations. After watching coach the first 3 months of the season, I knew we had a good one. His experience at the NCAA DI level has certainly given him the knowledge and confidence to be successful, and our student-athletes respect and support him."

"It is a pleasure to officially be part of the Mustang family," said Baltazar. "I'm really excited to be a part of the strong team culture and to continue driving the Men and Women's tennis teams in the right direction. They have a lot of potential. I am looking forward to a successful year. Go Mustangs!"

Baltazar comes from Division I New Mexico State, where he was a volunteer assistant coach. Last year as the interim head coach of the Mustangs he would lead the men's team to a 5-10 (2-6) record, including a berth in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) tournament. He would lead the women's team to a 6-11 record (1-9).

While at New Mexico State, Baltazar helped the Aggies win the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in 2022, as well as All-WAC First Team Doubles. He would also help multiple Aggies earn All-WAC tournament honors for doubles and singles.

"There is no doubt that Coach Baltazar will continue to build our tennis program to be highly competitive in the Lone Star Conference," said Noble.
