year SCSU employee gets Interim title removed after taking over the role in June 2022

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State University President Dr. Robbyn Wacker has named Holly Schreiner Director of Athletics, as announced on Wednesday. Schreiner, an 18-year veteran of St. Cloud State Athletics, gets the Interim tag removed from her title after assuming the role in June 2022.

"Holly is an excellent leader who is transparent, forthright and approachable as she works in collaboration with her coaches and staff. She cares deeply about this University and leads with enthusiasm and excellence as she fosters a culture of student success as our student athletes excel in athletic competition and in the classroom. Most importantly, she values our fans and their experiences, and works authentically to build goodwill and deep relationships with the broader St. Cloud community."

"I'm grateful to President Wacker and the St. Cloud State University leadership for affording me this amazing opportunity," said Schreiner. "There is no higher honor than to serve my alma mater in this role, and I could not be more excited to lead our outstanding staff, coaches and student-athletes. SCSU has a rich tradition of excellence and I look forward to leading our program to new heights. The opportunities are endless and I truly believe it is a great time to be a Husky."

Schreiner began her two-plus decade career with SCSU in December 2000 as the Director of Budgeting and Sports Campus for Campus Recreation before transitioning to the Associate Director of Operations at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, a role she held until December 2005. She officially started in the Husky athletic department in December 2005, taking on the role of Director of Compliance, which she held until 2013 when she was promoted to Associate Athletics Director of Compliance and Student Services while taking on the role of Senior Women's Administrator for the department.

Upon Heather Weems' departure in June 2022, Schreiner was named the Interim Director of Athletics while continuing her duties as Associate Athletics Director of Compliance and Student Services and adding Associate Athletics Director of Finance and Administration due to another departure. She has held the Interim A.D. and Finance/Administration positions since September 2022. Schreiner has also held sport responsibilities for nearly every sport during her 18 years with SCSU Athletics.

The Huskies have enjoyed much success in Schreiner's first season leading the department, highlighted by conference/regional championships in men's hockey, wrestling and volleyball and an individual national championship from wrestling's Nick Novak. With the spring season still in progress, the Huskies have registered 18 All-America honors, 15 individual conference championships and 35 all-conference honorees. In the classroom, 115 have been named Academic All-Conference and 13 programs recorded a 3.0+ cumulative GPA in the fall 2022 semester. Additionally, women's swim & dive's Anna Reschko was named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American and 24 Huskies earned the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award, which is bestowed to senior NSIC student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher, are exhausting their eligibility and are on track to graduate.

Schreiner has earned a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication (2000) and a master's degree in Sports Management (2008), both from St. Cloud State University. A native of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Holly and her husband Scott and their two daughters, Gracyn and Mara, reside in Cold Spring.
