Goldey-Beacom Picks Joe Dare to Lead the Track & Field Programs and Cory Braddy to Guide the Cross Country Teams

12/1/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's Department of Athletics announced Joe Dare has accepted the role as the track & field teams new head coach and Cory Braddy has taken the job as the cross country squads new head coach.

"We are very excited to welcome these two outstanding coaches to GBC," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. "Both of them bring a very unique skillset to their individual programs that will provide a great deal of depth to GBC Cross Country and Track & Field."

Dare since the fall of 2019 served as the head coach at Gwynedd Mercy University, sporting 31 individuals during his time that either finished first or second in the Atlantic East Conference Championships.  He had an All-America in the men's high jump, twice had the school's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, once such for the Men and last spring had the conference's Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year and the Men's Rookie of the Year.

Prior to that, Dare for two years was the head women's cross country coach and the track & field assistant both for the men and women at Stockton University.  He created the workouts drills and progressions for a squad that recorded an All-American in women's cross country.  Dare also guided 30 runners who were pick all-league by the New Jersey Athletic Conference, saw seven break school records and a men's track & field squad that cracked the top 25 in 2018.

Dare also monitored the program's study hall and organized the Atlantic City Marathon/Half Marathon.

He also was the cross country coach at Cabrini from 2014-17, developing all workouts during that stretch and helped produce four all-conference runners.

Dare earned his B.S. in Business Management from La Salle University in 2008 and his M.S. in Leadership from Cabrini University in 2016.

"Joe's resume is certainly exciting, but even more exciting is his positive attitude and passion for his work," Benoit added.  "I look forward to seeing what he can do to expand upon our fledgling track & field programs that started in 2018-19, only to get its following season canceled due to COVID-19.  I think GBC has the bones to be very successful in the sport and I think Joe can be the coach to take us where we'd like to go."

Braddy last fall was the assistant cross country coach for Cecil College.  He wrote training plans for the Seahawks, helped continue building the squad in all facets of the sport and helped strengthen the College's recruiting base.

Braddy also spent just over three years as a Senior Team Leader with Runologie, a runner store in Raleigh, NC.  He was the contact point for community outreach, created relationships with local organizations and worked with the owner on projections to maximize the store's potential.

He also was a field marketing specialist for the shoe manufacturer Wolverine World Wide and a community outreach coordinator for the running store Fleet Feet, both on the east coast.

"Cory has been very impressive throughout the interview process," Benoit said. "While his coaching experience is more limited than coaches in years past, he has a very strong knowledge of what it takes to be successful in distance running and recruiting through years of training and strong mentoring.  I'm confident he will capitalize on an already strong men's roster and grow our women's roster into one of the more successful in the CACC."

Both take over promising teams looking to take the next step.  The men's track & field team ended fifth at last spring's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship and the women were sixth with sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) winning the javelin.  The men's track & field roster also will see a return of Khalil Lau-Dickinson (Newark, DE), who won the CACC title in the 800-meter run during the team's inaugural 2019 season.  The men's cross country squad ended sixth at this fall's CACC Championship with junior and former CACC Rookie of the Year Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) closing 11th.
