5.11.23 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA - University women's gymnastics head coach Josh Nilson has resigned from his position to join the coaching staff at another institution, announced Vice President and Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson.

"I want to thank Josh for his time here at Temple, said Johnson. "He and the members of the gymnastics team truly raised the bar for our program, and through his leadership Temple has earned much success, in and out of the gym.  We wish him, Amanda, and their kids the best in the future."

Nilson has served as the Owls' head women's gymnastics coach for five seasons and guided the team to three straight (2019-21) conference championships with his 2021 team qualifying for the NCAA Regionals, marking the first time since the 1994 season a Temple team reached the national stage.  He also helped the Owls transition from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) in 2021. Individually, Nilson earned several accolades during his time at Temple.  He was named the 2019 and 2020 ECAC Coach of the Year and the 2021 WCGA Northeast Coach of the Year.

Assistant Coach, Hilary Steele, will serve as Temple's interim head coach.  A national search for the next head women's gymnastics coach will begin immediately.
