DAVIDSON, N.C. – Renny Waldron has resigned as Davidson's Director of Men's Track & Field and Cross Country which was announced by Director of Athletics Chris Clunie on Wednesday. He will remain with the team through the remainder of this season.

"Renny has had a transformative impact on the men's cross country & track and field program during his time here at Davidson," said Clunie. "His scholar-athletes have excelled both on and off the track, and he has taken the program to new heights with unparalleled A-10 and NCAA success."

"The last nine years have been amazing," said Waldron. "I have so many great memories, but especially of all of the people who have made Davidson such a special place. I want to thank Jim Murphy, Chris Clunie, Scott Applegate, Katy McNay, Dick Cooke, Jen Straub, and our entire administration for their belief in me and their support over the years."

Waldron coached the Wildcats to a third-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships and a fourth-place finish at the outdoor championships this season.

In 2022, Waldron was named the A-10 Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year after he helped lead Davidson to its highest team finish (2nd) and highest point total (122) in program history at the indoor championships.

In his tenure, Waldron has coached 15 outdoor champions, 10 indoor champions, and 12 NCAA East Preliminary qualifiers in track and field as well as 10 all-conference performers in cross country. He has helped guide Davidson to four podium finishes as a team and has sent 87 Wildcats to the podium.

Also under his direction, Bryce Anthony became the program's first All-American in 2022, Jayden Smith was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer in the program's history at this year's outdoor conference meet, and Joe dosReis recorded the fastest mile in A-10 history during the 2023 indoor season.

"Our great coaching staff, support staff, and student-athletes have elevated our program in so many ways and made these years incredibly joyful," added Waldron. "Words can't possibly show my appreciation for all they have done. I'm sad to be leaving at the end of the season, but I can't wait to see what our guys will do at NCAA's in these next few weeks!"

Waldron has also served on the Atlantic-10's Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion the past three years and was also a vital liaison for the creation of the 'Cats Care' mentorship program for athletes at Davidson.

"We have nothing but gratitude for what he (Waldron) has given to this program and this community, and we wish him all the best moving forward," concluded Clunie.

Waldron will be leaving to be closer to his family and be with his wife, Leslie Grinage '03, who is the Dean of Barnard College in New York City.
