Second Annual MavWeek Challenge Raises over $140,000 For Maverick Scholarships

Mankato, Minn. --- The final results have been tabulated and Minnesota State Athletics officials have deemed the 2023 MavWeek Challenge a resounding success.
 
"I am very pleased with these results.  Scholarship support is the lifeblood of our programs and I truly appreciate the efforts of our coaches and student-athletes to spotlight and draw attention to this critical need," said Kevin Buisman, Minnesota State Director of Athletics.  "There were a lot of people who played an important role dring MavWeek, but I would like to single out Scott Nelsen's leadership as beign a key part of successfully executing this plan. 

The fundraising for the MavWeek Challenge was supported using Opendorse technology and in partnership with Minnesota State's Annual Giving Office via crowdfunding. Additionally, targeted emails were sent to sport-specific alumni groups as well as Maverick season-ticket groups and daily social media messaging from student-athletes was implemented to keep the fundraiser top of mind across what proved to be a very supportive fan base.

Over the course of the week, $140,144 was raised with every dollar going to the sport of the donors choosing. Twelve of Minnesota State's 16 teams hit their fundraising goal with the men's programs raising $76,082 and the women's programs raising $64,062. During the two years of the MavWeek Challenge, the event has brought in $245,707 to benefit Maverick scholarships.

There was a total of 1,184 gifts to the MavWeek Challenge this year with an average gift of $118.36.  Additionally, there were $18,200 in matching gifts and the average daily amount of giving was $20,020.57.

"In year two of this initiative, it was important to demonstrate this was a sustainable giving platform and experience and almost 35% growh was exceptional.  I look forward to seeign what we can do next year at this time," Buisman continued.

The 2024 MavWeek Challenge is scheduled for April 22-28.
