Carry Brown Named Ninth Head Volleyball Coach at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Director of Athletics Jeff Barber announced Carry Brown has been named the new head volleyball coach on Monday evening.

Brown becomes the ninth Charleston Southern head volleyball coach in program history. She comes to the Buccaneers after coaching stops at Brescia University, Kentucky Wesleyan College and most recently Florida College.

"We are very excited to welcome Carry Brown, her husband JB and her children, Hadley and Ty, to Charleston Southern University," said Barber. "She comes to us from Florida College where she led the Falcons to both a conference championship and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. Her ability to build relationships with her players, and her desire to watch them grow into incredible, strong women are characteristics that are always paramount in a head coach at our university."

Brown comes to the Buccaneers after spending the last five seasons as the head coach at Florida College after taking on the role in 2018. She has compiled a record of 96-74, including a 38-23 conference record, across two conferences, in that time frame. This past season, the falcons went 12-1 in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC), winning the conference tournament without dropping a set and earning a bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Brown's name was popular with the end of the year awards across the CAC this past season as well as she was named the 2022 Continental Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

"I am humbled by this opportunity that I have been given to coach at Charleston Southern University," stated Brown. "I look forward to leading this new program physically, mentally and spiritually. I am very excited for this new adventure and the challenges that will come with it. I can't wait to get started with my new family at Charleston Southern University."

Along with serving as the Head Volleyball coach at Florida College, Brown also served the facility side of the College as a sports management professor, starting the sports management major herself and teaching multiple courses in the program.

Before arriving at Florida College, Brown found time at NCAA Division II program Kentucky Wesleyan College, serving three years as the Assistant Volleyball Coach, heading the recruiting efforts in her time there. Prior to that, Brown served as the Head Coach and Director of Audubon Volleyball Association (AVA) out of Owensboro, Kentucky, a club program serving many different age groups. Brown also spent two seasons as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Brescia University prior to her AVA work.

Brown spent her playing days at Florida College, playing all four seasons from 2002-2005. During her stint at Florida College, she was Co-Captain from 2003-2005. She was named the team MVP in 2004, conference MVP in 2005, and named to numerous All-Tournament teams throughout the four years. She helped lead her team to win the USCAA National Championship in 2003 and 2005.
Brown graduated from Western Kentucky University with her bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2007 and went on to complete her master's degree in Sports Administration in 2009.

Brown is married to her husband JB and they have two kids, Hadley and Ty.
