Marauders head softball coach Dre Frantz resigns post

BISMARCK, ND – University of Mary Head Softball Coach Dre Frantz has resigned her post after leading the Marauders for two seasons. The former UMary All-American Scholar-Athlete leaves her alma mater for personal reasons.

"Our department was saddened to hear of the decision by Coach Frantz to step away from Marauders softball. While we certainly understood Dre's reasoning and her goal of spending more time with her family, it was still difficult news to hear," said University of Mary Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Cooper Jones. "Dre had a Hall of Fame playing career for the Marauders and her passion for our program is unquestioned. We thank Dre for her many contributions to our softball program and commitment to the 'Greatness through Virtue' strategic plan. I look forward to seeing the entire Frantz family around our softball program in the years to come."

"Thank you to the University of Mary, Marauders Athletics, and our UMary softball scholar-athletes," said Frantz. "I'm leaving as a grateful and appreciative person for the opportunity that was given to me. The UMary softball program is close to my heart, and I will continue to support my fellow Marauders."

Frantz was named the Marauders softball head coach shortly prior to the start of the 2022 season. She coached two Northern Sun Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award recipients, eight NSIC All-Academic scholar-athletes in 2022 (2023 team not yet released) and one NSIC Pitcher of the Week. On the field the Marauders offense scored more runs in each of her two seasons than the season prior to her arrival.

Assistant coach and former UMary infielder/pitcher Kaitlyn Alvarado is the Marauders interim head coach.

A search for a new head softball coach will begin immediately.
