Job Description:

It is the responsibility of the Associate Athletic Director for Student Academic Services to coordinate, implement, facilitate, oversee, and evaluate all facets of the Academic support service programs for assigned sports teams, including but not limited to, academic advising, providing educational programs, scheduling and monitoring study hall sessions, academic progress, tutoring, and degree completion.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Annually and at mid-semester, assist with providing educational orientation programs for all incoming and returning student-athletes regarding policy and procedures, academic expectations, and academic progress.
  • Implement, administer, and coordinate study hall sessions and attendance for all assigned sports.
  • Assist with the employment and evaluation of study hall monitors and tutors.
  • Work with Athletic Compliance in all matters relating to NCAA academic eligibility and recruiting.
  • Assist with eligibility certification and the continuing eligibility process.
  • Assist with University, Conference, and NCAA nominations and awards.
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the athletic senior administrative staff, the SUNY Title IX Compliance Officer to ensure that all staff members annually attend the mandatory sexual violence prevention program as required by federal, state, SUNY, and University policies and procedures prior to or at the beginning of the academic year.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 2 years as an academic advisor at the college level
  • A demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and compliance issues concerning the administration of intercollegiate athletics
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, verbal, and written communication skills with a specific legislative writing style.  
  • Ability to work with people in a multi-ethnic environment
  • Ability to compile data and prepare, write, and review reports; must have excellent computer skills with a working knowledge of MS Office, ARMS, and NCAA applications.
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those other cultures or backgrounds
  • The scope of this position requires weekend, evening, and possible holiday hours.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in Division I academic advising, tutoring, and/or academic counseling
  • Previous experience with Life Skills programming is desirable as well as experience with People Soft programming and GradesFirst.
