PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Members of the Friar Athletic Department traveled to New York and Connecticut for three days of events that showcased the energy and enthusiasm surrounding Providence College Athletics this Spring.
Kicking off on Tuesday, May 9, Kerry Anderson '88 and Karl Anderson '88 hosted a welcome party at their home in Greenwich, Conn., for incoming freshmen in the PC Class of 2027. Students and their families had the opportunity to meet Athletic Director Steve Napolillo, Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English and Sr. Associate Vice President and Dean of Admissions Raul Fonts. This event is an annual tradition and thanks to the generosity of the Anderson family, the Class of 2027 enjoyed a warm welcome to the Friar Family.
The following day, Steve Napolillo and Kim English joined members of Winged Foot Golf Club and their guests for a memorable day at one of the most iconic courses in the world.
On Thursday, May 11, the athletic department hosted its annual Men's Basketball Vision Cup Presented by Santander Bank at the Stanwich Club. The event featured a full field and guests had the opportunity to meet Kim English and play Golf Digests' No. 1 ranked golf course in Connecticut. The winning foursome of Sean Sullivan, Jason Scully, Scott Torello and Eugene Mockler will be joining the men's basketball team on a chartered flight this season.
These events raised more than $250,000 for the men's basketball program and will provide the funding necessary to help the team compete at the national level.
"The strength of the Friar family was on display last week and I want to thank everyone who came out to make these events a success," Athletic Director Steve Napolillo said. "Providence College is a special place and thanks to the support of our alumni and fans, we are positioned for continued success. I want to especially thank Santander Bank for their support as the title sponsor of the Vision Cup."
"I continue to be amazed by the passion of the Friar fanbase and I am so appreciative of the support that we have received," Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English said. "In a short period of time, I have had the chance to meet so many of our loyal fans and I look forward to seeing everyone at the AMP this season."
