Shaw Names Washington As Associate AD Of Compliance/SWA

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 12) - The Shaw Athletic Department is proud to announce on Friday that Courtney Washington is its new Associate Athletic Director of Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator.

Washington, who has experience working with both NCAA Division I and Division II programs, comes to Shaw after a short stint at Texas A&M-Commerce. Before holding that position, she served at Alcorn State University since 2019 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Student-Athlete Services for the Division I Braves' program.

"We are very fortunate to hire someone with her level of expertise," Shaw Director of Athletics George Knox said. "Her vast experience as an administrator will be valuable to our coaches and student-athletes."

Before working at Alcorn State, Washington served at the University of Memphis as its NCAA Compliance Certification Officer. Before her arrival at Memphis, she worked at Delta State University as the Records and Compliance Specialist and at Auburn University at Montgomery as a Compliance Assistant.

"I'm ready to hit the ground running and add value in as many capacities as I can," Washington said. "Shaw has a rich tradition and a committed team already in place, and I look forward to meeting all the student-athletes and coaching staff."

Washington has an immense passion for athletics and the promotion of competitive, prepared student-athletes who can join society well-equipped and knowledgeable. Prior to her career in athletics, Washington taught high school in the Mississippi Delta, and that experience sparked her passion for education and student development.

A native of Cleveland, Miss., she holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy from the University of Mississippi and a Master of Education in Sport Management from Auburn University at Montgomery. Washington is also a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance & National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals. She is an avid writer and researcher.
