Position Summary:

The Kansas Swimming & Diving Assistant Coach will be responsible for helping to strengthen a program that competes successfully at the Big 12 and national level.  Primary responsibilities are to coach an assigned training group, recruit highly competitive prospective student-athletes, and support the goals of the program as set by the Head Coach.

This opportunity is a newly created role to support the Swimming and Diving progam. This position is full-time, benefits eligible, with an annual base salary range of $42,000-$45,000. 

 

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures;
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures;
  3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit;
  4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members;
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

 Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1.  Assist Head Coach with practice and assigned on-deck duties, required attendance at all team practices and competitions;
  2.  Coach an assigned training group;
  3.  Work with Head Coach on individual practices outside of normal team training times;
  4.  Stay up-to-date with coaching techniques and new trends by participating in continuing education (e.g., clinics, seminars, etc.);
  5.  Required attendance at all team practices and competitions;
  6.  Direct and supervise all aspects of recruiting to a highly competitive NCAA I program;
  7.  Implement an effective recruiting strategy designed to attract the best possible talent;
  8.  Consistent contact with all recruits, parents and coaches;
  9.  At minimum, 30 off-campus recruiting engagements per year;
  10.  Plan and execute all on-campus recruiting visits (official and unofficial);
  11.  Work within all NCAA, Big 12 and institutional rules regarding recruiting.
  12.  Work closely with Communications and Creative Services to implement effective social media strategies to help maximize social media presence and tell the story of the swimming and diving program;
  13.  Maintain knowledge of all pertinent platforms and how to engage our target audiences.
  14.  Additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or their designee.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Collaborate and be committed to working with other coaching staff to better the team and student-athletes;
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain positive professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies including prospective student athletes, current student-athletes, their families, the general public, staff, administrators, and alumni;
  • the ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student-athletes;
  • Demonstrated commitment to students’ athletic and academic success;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel;
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed during peak game and recruiting seasons;
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in Division I athletics or former collegiate swimmer;
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, as it related to travel and recruiting;
  • Lifeguard, CPR, First-Aid, and USA Swimming Coaching Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience with data analysis of racing video.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and aquatic facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to:  cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 25 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

 

Travel

Travel is expected for this position.

 

Hours of Work

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work maybe required.
