MIAMI – On the heels of a 41st place finish at the NCAA 2022 Track & Field Championships, head coach Ryan Heberling has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him at FIU through the 2027 outdoor season, FIU director of athletics Scott Carr announced on Tuesday.

"We're thrilled to have Ryan leading our track and field program," Carr said. "He has done a remarkable job and it was awesome to watch them have success on the national stage this past spring. As an FIU alum, Ryan bleeds blue and gold and we know the future is bright under his leadership."

With Heberling at the helm since the 2014-15 season, FIU track and field student-athletes have earned 14 USTFCCCA All-America selections, 19 individual conference titles, and 88 all-conference honors. Fifty Panthers have qualified for NCAA Regionals and two have been named conference freshman of the year under his tutelage.

This past season, Heberling led FIU to a 41st place finish at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships. All-Americans Rhema Otabor and Filippa Miller led the way with the former placing fourth overall in the javelin and the latter taking 14th place in the pole vault.

"I am extremely grateful for the faith Scott has in me and my staff," Heberling said. "I am very excited to continue to have the opportunity to work with our student-athletes on achieving their athletic goals. Panther Nation, we will continue working every day towards being a nationally recognized program and perform at a level FIU can be proud of, both on and off the track."

This track season gets started this spring, but the Panthers have already seen success this year, as the women's cross country team recorded its best performance at the Conference USA Championship, placing fourth overall. The men's team also showed improvement, taking seventh after finishing 10th the year prior.
