EJ Reutemann Hired as Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College head men's soccer coach Jon Anderson '75 announced the hiring of EJ Reutemann as the program's new full-time assistant coach on Thursday.

An coaching veteran with more than a decade of experience at the Division III level, Reutemann comes to Babson after spending the last three seasons as the head men's soccer coach at SUNY Delhi. After taking over a roster that included just 15 players in June 2021, he led the Broncos through a successful transition to Division III going 24-22-7, which includes 21 victories over his final two seasons leading the program.

Following a three-win campaign in 2021, Reutemann earned North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Coach of the Year honors after helping SUNY Delhi go 10-7-2 in 2022. The Broncos won the league's West Division and advanced to the NAC Tournament final before suffering a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Husson.

Reutemann's squad was even better in 2023 going 11-3-4 while ranking in the top 10 in Division III in scoring offense (3.75 goals per game), corner kicks per game (8.00), shots per game (19.06) and team goals against average (0.56). The Broncos kept 10 clean sheets and had six players earn All-NAC accolades.

"We are thrilled to have EJ Reutemann join the Babson men's soccer staff," commented Anderson.  "Before arriving here, EJ has gained valuable experience in a variety of successful programs.  He is shown the ability to recruit, coach, mentor and develop players.  Having played and coached winning programs he is the perfect fit for Babson.  Our players and staff are looking forward to working with EJ as we prepare for the 2024 season."

A 2012 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a B.S. in sport management, Retuemann spent a total of nine seasons at his alma mater as an assistant coach, which includes being promoted to associate head coach in March 2017. The Red Dragons went 108-43-11, which is good for a .670 winning percentage during his tenure, and captured three SUNYAC regular season titles (2016, 2017, 2018) as well as the 2016 SUNYAC Tournament championship.

Reutemann, who also earned his master's degree in sport management from Cortland in 2017, helped mentor 55 All-SUNYAC, 18 All-Region and four United Soccer Coaches All-America selections as the Red Dragons made four NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the sectional semifinals in 2014, 2016 and 2018 during his tenure.

In addition to his time at Cortland, Reutemann spent the spring of 2020 as an assistant coach at Virginia Wesleyan University and the 2020-21 academic year as an assistant coach at Tufts University. He also made one New York State AA Sectional Final appearance while serving as the varsity girls soccer coach at Ithaca High School from 2013-16.

"I want to thank Jon Anderson and the Babson Athletics department for this incredible opportunity and warm welcome," said Reutemann. "I am thrilled to join this community and contribute to Babson's commitment to excellence and innovation as a top school of business and soccer program in America.

"I have particularly appreciated the opportunity to get to know Jon and his coaching philosophy through this process. His focus on personal relationships and belief that the hard work of being on a team prepares student-athletes for the rigors of life resonates with my own coaching philosophy. As one of the winningest coaches in Division III history, the effectiveness of Jon's approach to coaching and upholding the culture of Babson men's soccer has stood the test of time in the constantly changing landscape of collegiate athletics. I am looking forward from learning through Jon's leadership, working with the student-athletes, and being part of Babson men's soccer's continued story."

Reutemann started 51 of 70 career games from 2008-11 at Cortland, finishing second on the team in scoring as the Red Dragons reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament during his rookie campaign in 2008, while leading the squad in assists as a junior in 2010.
