Track and Field: Raiders Dominate D3 All-Ohio Championship; Set National Record

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Mount Union track and field teams dominated the D3 All-Ohio Championships hosted by Wittenberg while setting a national record and three school records on Saturday afternoon.
 
The men set two school records and won eight events to win the meet by 152.5 points over Wooster while the women set a national and school record and won five events to win the meet by 35.5 points over Wittenberg.

The women's 4x200-Meter crew broke the school record by 3.35 seconds with a time of 1:40.25 but that time set was 1.3 seconds faster than the national record as well. The crew included Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless), Madison Miles (Padua / Padua Franciscan), Taylor Cupp (Geneva) and Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic).
 
Top three in an event earns All-Ohio status.
 
In the men's events the 4x200-Meter crew broke the school record by .65 seconds with a time of 1:28.10 which included Jared Storm (Barberton), Haden Gibson (Brookfield), Tylir Shannon (Transfer, Pa. / Reynolds) and Justin Knoch (Canton / GlenOak).
 
Storm along with Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds) finished first and third in the 400-Meters. Storm ran a 48.22 which is sixth in Division III and Gill ran 48.50 which is 15th currently.
 
Gill then came back in the 200-Meters running 21.82 to win the race, set the school record and currently sits 20th overall in Division III. Andrew McVicker (Dover) finished second with a 22.02.
 
The mile crew took the top four spots with Vincent Giumenti (Dover) running 4:12.45, Mason Kutz (Dalton) running 4:18.13, Chris Tooms (New Concord / John Glenn) running 4:19.76 and Alex Reese (Geneva) running 4:20.84.
 
Ryan McVicker (Dover) and Jonah Bacho took the top two spots in the shot put with throws of 51-feet 4.25-inches and 49-feet 7.75-inches. McVicker currently ranks 24th in Division III.
 
Andrew McVicker won the 60-Meters with a time of 6.93 while Aidan Malloy (League City, Tx. / Clear Springs) took home third in 7.02.
 
Dominic Deshuk (Amherst / Steele) won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.31.
 
The distance Medley team of Hunter Probert, Issac Pittman (Copley), Michael Palmer (Canton / Fairless) and Stephen Ulrich (Louisville) won with a 10:35.82.
 
Bret Wingard (Knox, Pa. / Keystone) finished runner-up in the triple jump with 44-feet 8.5-inches.
 
Kyel Wolff (Cleveland / Cuyahoga Heights) finished second in the pole vault with a leap of 15-feet 2.25-inches.
 
Nick Wong (Akron / Hoban) took second in the 5,000-Meters with a 15:21.45.
 
Curtis Joppeck (New London) and Matthew Tschantz (Canton / GlenOak) finished second and third with 1:55.74 and 1:57.18 in the 800-Meters.
 
For the women Wayt came back in the 400-Meters winning with a 56.04 which improves her time from this year and puts her fourth in Division III. Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) took home second with a 58.45.
 
Megan Wertz (Canton / GlenOak) and Angela DeFabio (Twinsburg) finished first and second in the mile with times of 5:12.64 and 5:13.48.
 
Makayla Stizlar (Sugarcreek / Garaway) took home the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 40-feet 7.5-inches while Buzz Kline (Mogadore / Field) took third overall in 38-feet 7-inches.
 
Gibbins won the 60-Meter hurdles with a time of 9.03 after running 8.95 in prelims.
 
Bri Aveni (Geneva) took second overall in pole vault with a leap of 11-feet 10.5-inches good for 17th in Division III.
 
Gia Venuto (Ravenna / Southeast) grabbed second in the 3,000-Meters in a time of 10:30.15.
 
The distance Medley team of Casey Wacchuas (Mentor), Julia Henderson (Twinsburg), Lauryn Chapman (Westerville / Westerville Central) and Michaela Davis (Wadsworth) took third with a 13:49.04.
 
Halle Cochran (Salem) took third overall in the 800-Meters with a 2:24.35.
 
Cupp also took home third in the 200-Meters with a time of 26.71.
 
Mount Union returns home hosting the Raider Tune-Up next Saturday before racing at the OAC Championships on Friday and Saturday February 24-25.
