#2024outlook I am optimistic for the year ahead as broad market sentiments double-down on inflationary retreat and a 'softer' economic landing. We should see this play through with a more settled interest rate scenario which will unlock investor appetite to deploy capital.

Unasked for advice for Creatives (especially those with less than 5 years of experience): when deciding whether to stay put or take a new job that doesn't include a huge bump in salary but will let you produce great work you can bank on later in your career, GO FOR THE WORK and the money will come. We know that Research shows that 70% of all jobs are not published publicly on jobs sites and as much as 80% of jobs are filled through personal and professional connections. As I often say, the Wall Street Journal was not delivered in my neighborhood growing up, much less me having had family members that were Wall Street MD's or employed in finance at all for that matter. Summer of ’69. Summer seemed to last forever. Did your mind immediately go to the Bryan Adams song? In the summer of ’69, I was 4; my life was filled with adventure, exploration, and connection with nature. It’s here I learned the importance of living and leading in #integrity. Nature teaches you this at an early age. What you put in, how you put it in, and “who you are being” as you do the work is mirrored back to you at every turn when you pay attention. The land and animals will let you know if there are any incongruences. This is depicted in this picture of me and my Uncle Robert Lee. This was the first summer I was allowed to “help” him prepare his steers to be shown at the County Fair. I learned that summer and the many more that followed that when my intentions, thoughts, feelings, and actions were aligned, the steer easily walked around the huge maple tree. My nature impacted the nature of the steer, and I was able to respond to internal and external changes that arose effectively. When I was living and leading outside of my integrity—pretending to be ok when internally I was afraid, questioning myself, or my heart wasn’t in it—the steer would act up. My reaction to the steer worked against the partnership I needed to develop if I were to show the steer successfully. Where does this also show up in your life and leadership—where you react versus effectively respond because you are out of integrity with yourself? Being whole and complete within ourselves takes effort. It is a lifelong journey—and one to be savored. The first step is entering the #matrix and discovering what keeps you playing safe and small. Our world needs leaders who are committed to living and leading in integrity, courageous, and take risks to play a bigger game. This Fall would have marked my 2-year anniversary at what I thought was my dream job at Inspire. However, yesterday I received the unfortunate news that I, along with many other talented individuals, have been laid off immediately. In times like these, I find myself rewatching Conan O'Brien Dartmouth commencement speech. I listened to this speech when I thought I failed in my past relationships, when I didn't open my restaurant, when I left New York, and when I couldn't accept that my life goals shifted. I know, random thing to listen to, but in his speech O'Brien talks about the importance of embracing change, being willing to fail, and following your dreams. The quote that resonates with me the most is, "It is our failure to become our perceived ideal that ultimately defines us and makes us unique. It's not easy, but if you accept your misfortune and handle it right, your perceived failure can become a catalyst for profound re-invention." His speech is a powerful reminder that it's okay to not have everything figured out. It's okay to fail. And it's okay to follow your dreams, even if they seem impossible. So, good luck to all of my fellow former Inspire Avengers and anyone else who may feel in despair after being laid-off. I know there's a dream job 2.0 waiting for you out there. Kudos to Allan Ritchie here as Managing Partner at Loopstra Nixon for acknowledging the challenges and benefits from those who are not lawyers aiming to improve the legal organizations in which they work. As Allan notes on his profile in flagging the contributions of Aidan Smith below to a culture in which the firm aspires, "law firms are a tough place to work and they can be even tougher on those who are not lawyers". Over many years, I have seen so many successes in law firms and departments attributable to this essential collaboration. Legal technology achievements could not be obtained without this critical "symbiosis" and the phrase "non-lawyer" is in my view a "non-starter" #legaltechnology

Know Your Strengths: In sports I’m completely different than I am off the court/field…My TEAM at Penn State, I played 2 positions, setter & labaro. Our Coach, J knew our limitations. He understood that Jimmy could play any position, but was BEST suited to hit power, Young/Nolan/Soccer Jim hit weak, Ray/Ricky hitting middle and back row passers would rotate in. My Strength was to understand where I should fill the gaps of the Team in order to WIN, not where I wanted to play. ***When we choose our Plays in Life, sometimes god puts you in a position where you are BEST suited to WIN, not necessarily what position you want to play***
