Rocha Named Head Men's Soccer Coach

PHILADELPHIA – After being an assistant coach for five seasons on the Rams' staff, Jason Rocha has been elevated to the Head Men's Soccer Coach position, Thomas Jefferson University announced Wednesday.

Rocha has served as an assistant coach for Jefferson the past five seasons, with the Rams' making the CACC Championship postseason each year. Most notably was last season where Jefferson won their final four regular season games to enter the conference tournament and win their first CACC Quarterfinals for the first time since 2018, which Rocha was a player on that squad.

"Thomas Jefferson University is proud to announce the hiring of Jason Rocha as the head coach for men's soccer," said Assistant Vice President of Athletics Tom Shirley. "We are fortunate to hire Coach Rocha '18 as he is not only a graduate of Jefferson, but also a former player and assistant coach. Having been with us for so long and doing quality work at a high level, Jason was a clear cut choice and highly recommended by our hiring committee, which included members of the team. We look forward to watching Coach Rocha do great things with our program, not only in the CACC, but also in the East region and the NCAA's."

Before he joined as an assistant in 2019, Rocha played all four years of his collegiate soccer career at Philadelphia University/Thomas Jefferson University. He was a two-time All-CACC First Team and D2CCA All-Region Second Team player in 2017 and 2018, as well as a United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team his senior season, where he led the team with 13 goals and helped the Rams advance to the CACC Championship Semifinals. He now becomes the head coach of his alma mater.

"There are really no words to describe the feeling! I am proud and honored to be named head coach of Jefferson," said Coach Rocha. "It's been my home for nearly a decade. I have a unique opportunity to give back to the university that played such a significant role in shaping my life. There's a deep sense of connection and pride in leading this team, knowing that I am contributing to its legacy and helping to shape the next generation of players."

Rocha has now been on both sides of the soccer field for Jefferson, giving him more insight with being able to lead the Rams this upcoming season. "With my prior coaching and playing experience, I believe I bring a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the game. Having played and now coaching at Jefferson, I have a strong connection to the program and a passion for helping players develop both on and off the field. My experience as a player allows me to relate to the challenges and pressures that student-athletes face, and I strive to create a supportive and empowering environment for this program."

Prior to his playing days at Jefferson, Rocha played for FC Delco Academy for three years. He was a member of Philly Fustal Academy for four years, helping them win a regional championship each year. Rocha now looks to develop his team this upcoming season. "I am optimistic and focused on growth. I have high expectations for the team and believe that we have the potential to achieve great things. Last year, I saw a lot of talent and potential in the team. I believe that we can build on this foundation and continue to improve. I also believe that there are areas where we can make significant strides. This includes improving our tactical awareness and decision-making on the field, as well as increasing our physical and mental standards. Overall, I am excited about the upcoming season and confident that with hard work and dedication, we can achieve our goals and have a successful year."
