LACEY, Wash. - Saint Martin's University is excited to welcome Matt Schwaerzler as the school's next Assistant AD – Communications. Schwaerzler comes from the Portland Pickles, where he served as the Director of Digital Marketing & Public Relations of one of the most notable West Coast league's (baseball) teams in the country.

"It's often said that positions in Sports Information are among the most difficult to fill in college athletics on account of the breadth of skill sets required of the role. However, Matt impressed our Search Committee and demonstrated a mastery of a wide range of areas. With undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Digital Media & Design from Dakota Wesleyan University, and professional experience in marketing and public relations, we are confident that Matt is prepared to expand upon the impressive work of his predecessor, Scot Gladstone," noted Steve O'Brien, Director of Athletics.

When asked for his reaction to being named the department's next Assistant AD – Communications, Schwaerzler said, "I am excited to have the opportunity to leave my mark on such a historic and well-respected athletic department and institution as Saint Martin's University. I'm looking forward to contributing to the Saints' continued upwards trajectory by celebrating our student-athletes' stories, expanding our fan base and further engaging all of our audiences. I'm excited to take on the new challenges of this position and see what we can accomplish together on campus, in competition and throughout the community! Go Saints!"

Schwaerzler is set to arrive on Saint Martin's campus later this month. Although the Saints will have completed all of their home competitions for the year by that time, several programs will still be competing and vying for NCAA post-season births. Saint Martin's University sponsors 15 intercollegiate athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level, and is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
