DiTolla To Oversee Cal's NIL Efforts

Longtime Compliance Expert To Manage All Aspects Of Name, Image And Likeness

BERKELEY – Justin DiTolla, a longtime administrator with close to 15 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, has been named the first Associate Athletics Director for Name, Image and Likeness at Cal.

DiTolla has spent the past 2½ years as Cal's Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services, where he has worked closely with Cal student-athletes in their NIL endeavors. In his new role, DiTolla will manage all aspects of NIL at Cal, including advising and consulting with student-athletes, meeting with recruits, working with campus partners and other constituents, and providing additional resources to student-athletes to stimulate and execute NIL activities.

"In the current climate of intercollegiate athletics, few things are more paramount than a successful Name, Image & Likeness program," Cal Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton said. "Not only do we now have a full-time administrator whose sole mission is to support our student-athletes as they engage in NIL activities, but we have the perfect person in place to lead our efforts. Justin's extensive background in compliance and student services gives him the tools necessary to navigate the challenging and rapidly evolving world of NIL, and we are fortunate to have him in this role as we look to enhance the student-athlete experience for all of our current and prospective Golden Bears."

DiTolla will work with campus partners and others in the Cal community to provide NIL resources for Cal student-athletes - including Berkeley Haas, Berkeley Law and Learfield Cal Bears Sports Properties, among others. He will be influential in ensuring that Cal student-athletes thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of NIL.

"I could not be more excited to start my new role solely devoted to Name, Image and Likeness," DiTolla said. "This new position will provide tremendous value to our student-athletes in providing additional educational resources, brand building and stimulating NIL activities. The future of NIL at Cal is bright as we have some very exciting projects that will lead to more NIL activities for our student-athletes that will be launched in the near future. I look forward to the opportunity to engage with student-athletes in NIL as I believe it is crucial to our success at Cal."

Kat Brown, a former All-Pac-12 volleyball player at Cal who went on to earn a law degree at the University of San Diego, replaces DiTolla as Cal's Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. Brown has spent the past seven years working in Cal's compliance office, most recently serving as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. She will oversee all aspects of Cal's compliance efforts, including educating student-athletes, coaches, staff and the Cal community on NCAA legislation; serving as the liaison to the conference office for legislative and governance matters; guiding the department's athletic scholarship operations and eligibility certification process; and promoting a compliant culture across Cal Athletics.

"We are excited for Kat to take the next step in her career in this critical leadership role for Cal Athletics. Throughout her career at Cal, Kat has demonstrated all of the attributes -- including strong analytical and communication skills -- to thrive in this position," Cal Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration Jay Larson said. "She has excelled in her role as a member of our compliance team and is well-prepared to lead our Compliance and Student Services Office in its efforts to support our student-athletes and promote a strong culture of compliance across our department."
